The American Dental Association advocates an effective and consistent daily oral hygiene routine as the first line of prevention against cavities and periodontal disease. This starts with brushing your teeth twice and flossing at least once each day.

The quality of the oral hygiene products you use is very important to the effectiveness of your oral hygiene routine. Some oral hygiene products merely have cosmetic value and their ineffectiveness is masked by exorbitant marketing messages.

To help consumers find the highest quality oral hygiene products for their families the American Dental Association instituted their Seal of Acceptance program. Since its inception in 1931, the program has become the benchmark for identifying high-quality oral hygiene products.

If a manufacturer wants to earn the ADA’s Seal of Acceptance product they can submit it in advance of its launch for testing and research. The ADA will then test and research the active ingredients for safety and its effectiveness as part of an oral hygiene routine. If the product meets the rigorous guidelines, it will earn the right to print the Seal of Acceptance on the label.

As an added convenience, the ADA also provides an index of all oral hygiene products that have earned the seal on their website.

If you are having trouble selecting a new oral hygiene product for you or your family, and you live in the Palm Desert, California area you can always call 760-610-0497 to speak with Dr. Gregg Balis or a staff member at Gregg Balis DDS.
